The Merlion, Singapore's national symbol, is a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body. Standing proudly at Merlion Park, this 8.6-meter tall statue represents Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village (Temasek) and its original name Singapura, meaning "lion city."
Designed by Fraser Brunner in 1964, the Merlion has become one of the most recognizable symbols of Singapore. The statue continuously spouts water into Marina Bay, creating a spectacular sight against the backdrop of Singapore's modern skyline.
